Surveillance Informatician
Overview:
WiredPeople is looking for an Surveillance Informatician to join our interdisciplinary team of public health consultants assisting Florida in reaching its strategic public health goals. This position requires a considerable exercise of independent judgment, excellent interpersonal skills, good computer skills, and the ability to perform against high standards of excellence. Preferred candidates would be located in Tallahassee, Florida. WiredPeople is open to remote candidates residing within Florida state lines.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities:
- Attend section and program specific meetings or other meetings.
- Conduct data analyses and design projects using existing outbreak data.
- Work closely with disease subject matter experts to update disease-specific outbreak surveys.
- As needed, review, modify, and implement new outbreak data automation processes.
- As needed, assist in designing, implementing, and updating outbreak surveillance tools.
- Lead the Outbreak Re-design project aimed at modernizing and automating outbreak data collection processes and analytics.
- Review current methods for collecting outbreak data in Florida’s reportable disease and condition surveillance application, Merlin.
- Improve current methods or implement new methods for outbreak surveillance and analytics.
- Lead a project to design and implement an external web-based portal for outbreak reporting. Develop and implement an outbreak detection tool in Merlin.
- Develop and implement an automated process for outbreak data quality checks for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform additional assignments as requested.
Qualifications:
- Master of Public Health or equivalent graduate degree in a health-related field.
- Two years of experience in disease surveillance and surveillance systems.
- One year of outbreak surveillance experience.
- One year of experience in conducting data analyses.
- One year of experience developing and implementing surveillance methodologies, systems design, and data collection processes preferred.
- One year of outbreak investigation experience.
- Microsoft Office Experience: Two years of experience in the last five years with the Microsoft Office Suite; including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Advanced skills in Excel and power query preferred.
- One year of experience with statistical analysis software packages such as SAS, R Studio, and SQL Management Studio.
