Shift / Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:15 AM – 3:15 PM
Overview
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) – Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled (MSSD) is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and qualified In-School Nurse to serve students at the Mississippi Valley School in Hannibal, MO for the 2026–2027 academic school year.
In this role, you will provide critical healthcare support, daily nursing care, and emergency response for students with severe physical, developmental, and medical needs in an educational setting.
Note: Registered Nurse (RN) candidates are strongly preferred. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) will be evaluated if an RN is unavailable.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Student Care: Provide specialized healthcare interventions, routine medical monitoring, and emergency nursing care to students during school hours.
Medication & Treatment Administration: Administer daily medications, gastrostomy tube feedings, seizure management protocols, tracheostomy care, and diabetes management as prescribed by student health plans.
Health Assessment & Monitoring: Observe, document, and report changes in student physical health or medical conditions to school administrators and parents/guardians.
Emergency Response: Serve as the primary medical responder on campus for sudden illnesses, injuries, or medical emergencies.
Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential student health records, treatment logs, and medication logs in compliance with state regulations and district policies.
Collaborative Support: Partner with classroom teachers, therapists, and school staff to ensure a safe, inclusive, and healthy educational environment for all students.
Qualifications & Requirements
Licensure: Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Missouri (or multistate Compact license) preferred. Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license considered.
Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification required.
Experience:
Prior nursing experience in pediatrics, school nursing, developmental disabilities, home health, or complex medical care strongly preferred.
Experience with g-tubes, seizure protocols, suctioning, and specialized mobility assistance is highly advantageous.

Schedule & Work Environment
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:15 AM – 3:15 PM (35 hours per week). Follows the MSSD school district calendar.
Location: On-site at Mississippi Valley School in Hannibal, MO.
